Volcanic Walks Lanzarote with added Pilates Teaser
Discover this fantastic walk in the South of Lanzarote with stunning views. Montana Roja.
On a recent holiday to the Canaries island of Lanzarote my Husband and I discovered this great short hike up and then around the perimeter of the extinct Volcano Montana Roja.
Starting roughly in the centre of the southern town of Playa Blanca we headed West along the LZ2, walk or drive it isn't too far to th bottom of the path.
Find the Jardines Del Sol turn right and the path entrance is a couple of roads up on the right.
Very handy hotel with a small supermarket on this road where we grabbed a much needed cold drink on the way in the 28 degree heat!
A rustic loose stone path takes you up fairly easy gradient and not too far maybe 20 minuets of walking to reach the top of the Volcano circumference. Once there you can easily follow the path around the perimeter with stunning views across the neighbouring mountains and coast line.
WOW really amazing picturesque views once up.
Take care as the ground is a little loose and if hot there is no shade or shelter so a hat and good sunscreen a must. That said this is the 'Windy Island' so a cool breeze is constantly at hand to help the discomfort of working up a bit of sweat on this hike.
All in all probably took an hour maybe less, we stopped for photo's and scenery absorption.
Of course it wouldn't be a Pilates page Blog had I not got in a couple of Teaser Photo Poses...
We walked from the main seafront centre and back so that made this a good work out and earned us a very cold Cerveza once back in the town. You can easily drive to the Montana Roja Path start there is parking.
